LUAP

PROJECT:   A Person of Interest

“A Person of Interest” is an initiative that brings together residents and experts from creative backgrounds to deliver talks, workshops, pop-up displays, and exhibitions at the sites we’re involved with. The first event will feature Luap, who will give a talk about his work, followed by an opportunity for residents to meet the artist and view a selection of his work firsthand.

We will also be partnering with LUAP to act as judge for our recently create resident art submission competition.

Paul Robinson, also known as ‘LUAP,’ is a British multidisciplinary artist born in 1982. Originally from Grimsby, LUAP is now based in London and has showcased his work on a global scale.

Robinson stands as a trailblazer in the contemporary art scene. The Pink Bear provokes thought and discussion wherever he goes. Transcending geographical boundaries, the bear is one and all. A representation of a shared essence of humanity. Fostering connections and facilitating positive change. The Pink Bear continues to captivate and inspire.

NOW Gallery and Firepit Art Gallery and Studios CIC

PROJECT:   Collage Sessions

In the workshops, the Peninsulist Newspaper kindly supplied copies of old issues of the publication for residents to recycle into one-of-a-kind artworks.

The collage sessions successfully engaged residents, extending from Upper Riverside amenities to the Firepit Art Gallery and Studios CIC, which has displayed some of the participants’ works. These sessions have increased resident interaction with the gallery, enhancing community participation.

The projects final session of this round of the project happened at the NOW Gallery. The workshop culminating in the creation of a final piece of art that will be displayed permanently in Upper Riverside, symbolising the residents’ connection to their community.

PBM and Michael Kirkbride NEAC

PROJECT:   Building community

Initially, we collaborated PBM to deliver Knight Dragon’s Easter workshop and trail. Building on that success, we forged additional partnerships to offer workshops and activities aimed at fostering community growth and providing exceptional experiences for residents of Upper and Lower Riverside at Greenwich Peninsula. The first outcome of this partnership was a series of life drawing classes led by artist Michael Kirkbride. We are now working on expanding our offerings to include more shared activities for all residents.

Painter, tutor, mentor; Mick Kirkbride is a masters graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, London. For fifteen years he was Senior Lecturer in Visual Studies at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts. In 2004 he was elected a member of the New English Art Club (NEAC), becoming the Curator of its education programme in 2014. Mick leads a series of life drawing classes and specialist workshops for the Royal Academy of Arts’ Education Programme. He has taught drawing and painting at all levels including postgraduate, and currently teaches at the Mall Galleries/NEAC, Hampstead School of Art, and Insight School of Art, London. He has also taught on a range of post-graduate specialisms at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) currently teaching Life Drawing for students and staff there. More recently Mick has led workshops at Eton College for both students and staff.
